RETREAT  2011
 See Pictures Here

What a fabulous retreat we had.  I loved seeing all those smiling faces all the time. We had 79 participants this year an increase of 10 from last year. We kept busy from sunrise until well into the night for some.  We held 15 different classes plus open sewing.  There were 120 door prizes given out from the quilt show vendors, our local shops and the shops along the way to Kerrville.  We played bingo, had an apron parade and was inspired by the show and tell.

This year saw 25 completed projects from the Orphan Block project. The creativity and talent of our guild members came through loud and clear.  There were 12 quilt tops and a variety of wall hangings and table runners. Every single quilt top was spectacular.  Everyone wanted to take one of those prized pieces home.

The Apron Parade was fun and again showed off the creative minds that we have in the guild.  Our theme this year was "Blooming Aprons"  and the apron that best represented that theme was Jan Baethke's.  The most original was Marlene Watkins' apron.  Jean Ann Mayhew captured the prettiest apron.  But Patz Lupo outdid herself with the silliest apron.  Laura Brooks wore one of her mother's aprons.  Suzy Ellis shared an apron from the past that had a price tag of $1.29.  We went to Culver's afterwards for some frozen custard. Even the "Ice Cream Cone" had on an apron.

Everyone enjoyed the classes that were offered.  Show and Tell proved to be a highlight as all class projects were displayed.  Quite a few had finished or nearly finished items.  We had 3 quilts, a jacket, fabric painting, bags,  make it and take it and a variety of other choices.  Some mentioned that it was a hard decision to decide what classes to take.

The Sisterhood of Quilters inducted 23 new members into its fold. We are 92 strong now. Come to retreat next year and be inducted into the Sisterhood.

Mark your calendar for March 18 - 22, 2012 for next year's retreat.  It's being named "Bare Necessities - A Hope For A Cure".  For the fun part, we will be showing off our decorated bras!  Not to worry, you DO NOT need to model your bra just decorate a bra and show it off on a hanger.  We are already making plans for another successful retreat.  Hope to see you there.

Until next time,
Karyn Heaney
