Grande Valley Quilt Guild "Retreat" Kerrville Texas, March 15 - 19, 2009 |
We were greeted by these beautiful deer that roam all over the campus. They didn’t seem to mind that we were invading their property. I stood in the doorway of our dormitory and clicked these photos. This is the 2 for 1 quilt class and I enjoyed it immensely. It was very easy to do and we had a wonderful instructor. This is an example of one of the quilts. On St. Patrick’s Day we had some “in the spirit” people at our evening meal. The ladies that came to the retreat came with a very positive attitude to have FUN! A great sewing machine caddy was in the making. Vivian was hard at work when I snapped her photo. Our Ropa Dig night was a great success. Some of the ladies were unrecognizable when they came to the evening meal! After our fashion show about two dozen of us went to the local ice cream store still dressed in our great Ropa finds. A couple of little girls that were standing in line decided that the ladies were very funny! Our bride was asking the male customers if they were single. It seems she was left at the altar! The final evening we all got the chance to show each other what we had made. Many of the projects were WIP but we all got the idea! Annette and Maggie and Sharon were surprised by baskets full of fat quarters that were given by all the participants to show how much we appreciate all their hard work for the last four years of planning our retreats. A photo shows our new next year planning hosts for the retreat. The final photo shows Annette and Maggie looking at all their goodies back at the dorm. Our last night was full of laughter and sadness. Some of our gals won’t be coming back to the valley next year and parting is so very hard. We wish them all the very best. We are all better people for knowing them! WE stopped at a lot of quilt shops on the way and also on the way home. I went home with so many ideas that I don’t know where to start. We had the best instructors and the very best participants during this year’s retreat. I am eager to sign up for next year! I urge anyone that hasn’t gone to sign up and all that have been there to sign up again. I might suggest that you pull a cargo trailer along behind your vehicle, though. We barely had room for people in our van! Jan Major |
