Click here to see a few of the pictures taken at Fort Hood on December 16. Over 168 quilts etc. were presented to the wounded warriors on December 16. The soldiers expressed much gratitude for our caring and gifts. This is an ongoing project. Another presentation is planned for the 3rd week in April 2009. All donations are welcome.

When Virginia Bazar retired from many years as a school teacher, she took up quilting, becoming a charter member of the Rio Grand Valley Quilt Guild. She rarely missed a meeting and was always volunteered at the annual quilt show. She especially enjoyed showing of the Texas quilts members made and displayed each year.
She was born in Missouri and came to the Valley soon after graduating from Baylor University to teach art and later Special Education in Mercedes, Texas.
She always brought her camera and took pictures of everyone. She was scrapbook chairman of several of the groups she belonged to.
She Died September 9th at her daughter's home in Lockhart, Texas.
We will miss her.

2009 Donation Quilt:
We at the Rio Grand Valley Quilt Guild would like to thank all of you for the beautiful quilt you made. The Pattern is Tropical Flowers by Judy Niemeyer. The O'Sew Busy Bee's at the Tip Of Texas RV Park sewing room made the large quilt and it was beautifully quilted by Patti Dybdal. The minature was made by Ruth Golding and the wall hanging by Donna Williams. The Quilt it self was made by Nancy Bartlett, Arlene Boman, Louise Bumgardner, Betty Fiser, Joan Gilson, Carolyn Glass, Ruth Golding, Jackie Hood, Virgina Imlah, Alice Kline, Mary Koska, Alice Maixner, Lorraine O'Neill, Margie Shomaker, JoAnn Straup, Joanne Swanke, and Donna Williams. Friendship Day (August Guild Meeting)
It was a fun day and the classes were a great idea. The spread had quite a variety and was yummy. There was a lemon dessert that was devine. Thanks to everyone who helped organize a very successful event. (Pictures)

The 2007 donation quilts "Pathways to Friendship" were made by the Llano Grande Bee, Mercedes, TX. They are based on designs by Scarlett Rose from her books Celtic Style Floral Appliqué and Baskets Celtic Style. The large quilt was quilted by bee member Marvel "Scharny" Williamson (1937-2005) of Spencer, Iowa. The wall quilt was quilted by Barbara Heetland of Milford, Iowa.

On Saturday, August 12^th 2006, the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild meeting was held at Paradise South RV Park, just north of their regular meeting location (Marble Arch, Mercedes). There were about 70 in attendance. This was Friendship Day. The guild supplied coffee, iced tea and lemon aid. Members each brought a sack lunch and a dozen cookies. After a short business meeting the group played quilo (quilt bingo) had lunch, show and tell, demonstrations by Scaief’s Fabrics and Picket Fence from Harlingen. There were also demonstrations by two guild members. Many prizes were also awarded. See Pictures Here

Jackie Heyes has done a beautiful job with the newsletter. Great color graphics, photos and word art. By necessity the print addition will be in black and white, but here on the website it is in great color, so read it here. It is in a PDF file and is a little large so it will take a little while to load. If you are on dialup, start the download and have a cup of coffee. I think you will enjoy seeing the newsletter as Jackie produced it.

At the Guild Meeting Saturday, 04/08/2006, Jean Anne Mayhew reported on programs planned for upcoming meetings. Dale Shafer introduced ladies with items that they worked on at retreat. This was followed by show and tell. (pictures)

The Guild meeting on March 11^th was a busy place. The meeting opened with the business meeting, followed with show & tell, (pictures here) then all who had winning entries in the 24^th Annual Quilt Show Guild Retreat - Kerville, March 2009

Scholarships were awarded to 2 young Ladies who are going to attend college. The Llano Grande Bee unveiled the Raffle Quilt for the 25^th Annual Quilt Show.
