Val Forsythe, Bee Keeper  *  01/09/2010

These photos are from the Seam Rippers meeting, Nov. 17, 2009, in the San Benito High School Home Economics room. The industrious ladies worked on items for the RGV Quilt Show Boutique. Don't forget this is the group that comes to eat first!

This picture is of Linda Garcia.  She taught a class on color for Seam Rippers and guests Sep. 22.  Seam Rippers Bee was a guest of the Honey Bees at Fun N Sun RV Park, Harlingen.  It was the night of a threatening storm and some places got a considerable amount of rain.  The turnout was small, but, as usual, there was a great deal of fun and learning.

Har-Benito Bee meeting July 16 held at Sundance Apts on Bus. 77 near the Harlingen and San Benito city limits--across from Picket Fence.  A friendly and talented group.  Did I hear they've been organized 8 years?  Besides Show and Tell there were plans for future meetings.  Next meeting members are asked to bring a yard of ugly fabric.  Contact Della Miller for more information.
We played a crossword puzzle game and all were winners--no surprise!

Calico Clippers sharing Thanksgiving in June!
One of the perks of being a Bee Keeper is that you are invited to such unexpected special events!   This spread covered the gamut from turkey to cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.  At the table, conversations went to recipes (which I wished I had copied down!) to the "Quilter's Cuisine"-the Guild's fund raiser cookbook.  Did you know there's a section just for special diets?
Earlier they played a fabric exchange game.  Then, always, Show and Tell.  I learned about a terrific book called "Collaborative Quilting" by Freddy Moran and Gwen Marston, Sterling Publ.
Next meeting they'll work on a log cabin from "Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book", Crosley-Griffith Publ.  They'll make 1/2 square triangles from stratas (strips of fabric sewn together) and white fabric.  The book is especially good because it has 2 pages of a variety of arrangements.
They meet on Wednesdays at Lakewood RV Park Rec Center behind "Faith That Pleases God" Church off Expwy 83.  Call Bev Fleming 428-3552 if you'd like to know more about their meetings.  (They don't have a Thanksgiving supper every week!)  Buzz, Buzz, Buzz!!!

Bee Keeper

Queen Bee Louise Bumgardner and husband Arthur wanted to make quilts for the wounded at Fort Hood when hearing of the great needs.
The O'Sew Busy Bees of Tip O'Texas made 10 fleece blankets 50" x 62" and 68 quilts for the wounded soldiers at Fort Hood (est. cost of misc. donations:  $1,709.00).  Also 56 Quilted Christmas stockings for soldiers in Iraq.  We are continuing to make more quilts for the above recipients.
In April 2008, 37 quilts were taken to the Fischer House in San Antonio to the Brook Army Medical Center in April 2008.  And 147 Quilts for the Ronald McDonald House.
