From Our Show Chairman
I would like to express a
very warm welcome to all our guest of the 24th Annual Rio Grande
Valley Quilt Show “Nature’s Beauty-All Around Us”.
As you view the magnificent display of fabric art, keep in mind they were made
by folks like yourselves that put love and joy into their creations. A Special
thank you to the Killer Bees on the outstanding job on our beautiful donation
quilt, wall hanging and miniature. They have truly captured nature’s beauty.
As I walk along the aisles and view the quilts I am brought
back to my own childhood. I can’t ever remember sleeping under anything but a
quilt made by my grandmother and aunts. I didn’t know you could buy blankets in
the store. I still have some of these quilts today and have passed some on to
my children, It is a little of my heritage. A quilt made by a loved one and
passed on from generation to generation is a gift to cherish.
Please, take your time and enjoy the beauty before you.
Follow along and learn about each quilt from their description on the following
pages. Go back to a gentler time, a time when women gathered together to quilt,
visit and share a little of themselves. Thankfully, we are going back to that
time. The fabrics may be different and the methods are certainly faster, but
the end result is still the same; a beautiful quilt.
I must take a moment to thank so many wonderful people who
have put this show together. Many hands lighten the load. Thank you to
co-chairpersons, Barbara Thompson and Lila Hetzler for their support. To Florea
Flores who was always ready to answer my questions; to all committee leaders
who were willing to take additional responsibility, and to all the members who
have been so generous with their time and talent, thank you and God bless you
