President’s Piece

Be sure to read this entire newsletter. It is packed with information. There is information you will need to know regarding the ballots and the ballot description for the coming quilt show. There is information on how to write up your entries for the coming quilt show. There is a list of the years ahead of what groups are doing the Opportunity Quilts and the Quilt Show Chairmen. There is some exciting news for all of our Quilting Bees and free advertisements in this newsletter. Our members and Board members have been working hard to make our guild a motivating and fun group.

Friendship Day is around the corner and you don’t want to miss that. Last year we had 90 people for lunch and activites. Be sure to read Bernley's Program Report. Sarah’s Scrap Block Drawing is another fun monthly activity and those who win the drawing and bring their finished quilt the following month will receive a $20.00 gift certificate to use towards a guild class. Karyn and Bev are busy with the planning of the 2011 retreat.

Our charity work is covering a huge range of people and touching lives throughout this nation and others. The May meeting left several tears in our eyes as Patti Dybdall shared her travels to Ft. Hood. Thank you to Patti for her representation of this guild as well as all quilters in the valley.

In May I had the privilege of attending Donna and La Feria High School’s Award ceremonies. Our two High School Students Megan Trevino and Valeria Zamora received their RGVQG Scholarships. The ceremonies were well conducted and Megan and Valeria are two wonderful young people who will prosper in their education. It is a joy that our guild can be part of their future. Thank you to Evelyn Fincher and her team for doing an excellent job of searching out students with great qualifications.

If you are not involved with a part of this guild then try to find a spot that is interesting to you. You will enjoy yourself even more. If you need an idea come and make your request to help known to me. You will be pleasantly surprised at the difference you can make and the joy you can bring to others as well as yourself.

Happy to serve,
Susan Flarity
President
